Blagoy Blagoev, a native of Sofia, Bulgaria, is Full Professor of Organization Studies and Director at the Institute for Work, Organization, and Transformation (FAA-HSG) at the University of St. Gallen. His research draws on a temporal lens to examine the interplay of people, organizations, and society in an era of entangled socio-technical and ecological change. For over a decade, he has successfully mobilized these research insights to advise organizations and leaders across various industries.
Prior to his appointment at the University of St.Gallen, Blagoy served as Professor of Business Administration, esp. Organization at Dresden University of Technology, one of Germany’s leading research universities and a premier hub for technology and innovation in Europe. He also served as Lecturer at Chair of Strategic Management of Leuphana University Lüneburg, where he co-founded LOST, the Leuphana Center for Organization and Social Transformation. Blagoy holds a doctoral degree, summa cum laude, from the School of Business and Economics, Freie Universität Berlin, and is a past member of its Pfadkolleg, the first Research Center for Business Administration funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG). Internationally, he has held fellowships at institutions such as Copenhagen Business School (CBS) and lectured at some of Europe’s most respected business schools, such as the Antwerp Management School.
His work has appeared in globally leading journals, such as Administrative Science Quarterly (ASQ), Academy of Management Journal (AMJ), Academy of Management Review (AMR), Journal of Management (JoM), Journal of Management Studies (JMS), and Organization Studies. As an engaged scholar, he is also frequently heard in podcasts, gives interviews for various media, such as Norddeutscher Rundfunk (NDR), and publishes in leading German newspapers, such as Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ).
Blagoy has received multiple awards, grants, and fellowships, including the Ernst Reuter Prize, multiple DFG grants, and the Governing Responsible Business Fellowship at Copenhagen Business School. Currently, he co-coordinates the DFG Research Network A Temporal Lens on Disruptive Innovation Processes and the Standing Working Group Time and Organization Studies: Navigating Change, Emergence, and Complexity of the European Group for Organizational Studies.
